Crispy Teriyaki Tofu

One of the BEST (and easiest) ways to enjoy tofu = my crispy teriyaki tofu! This recipe isn’t just about taste; it’s all about the fusion of textures and flavors that will make your taste buds doing back flips.

Why Air Fryer?

Using an air fryer revolutionizes the way we cook tofu. It’s the ultimate secret to achieving that delightful crunch without drowning your dish in oil. The result? Crispy perfection while keeping things healthy and wholesome.

Crispy & Flavorful

To attain that sought-after crispy texture, it all starts with properly preparing your tofu. Begin by pressing it to eliminate excess moisture. This crucial step allows the tofu to soak up the marinade effectively, resulting in a more intense flavor.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Press Your Tofu: Wrap your tofu block in paper towels and place a weighted object on top for about 30 minutes. This step is crucial for achieving crispy tofu.
  2. Marination Magic: Let your tofu bathe in the teriyaki marinade for at least 30 minutes. For an intensified flavor, marinate it overnight in the fridge.
  3. Cornstarch Coating: Lightly coat your marinated tofu cubes with cornstarch before air frying. This thin layer creates an extra crunch.
  4. Air Frying Technique: Arrange the tofu in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Cooking in batches ensures each piece gets evenly crispy. Spray or brush the tofu with a little oil for that golden, crispy finish.

How to Serve it

But what do I serve it with? I got you.

  1. Over Rice or Quinoa: Serve your crispy teriyaki tofu over a bed of fluffy rice or protein-packed quinoa for a satisfying meal.
  2. In a Stir-Fry: Incorporate your crispy tofu into a vibrant stir-fry loaded with colorful vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, and snap peas. Toss them all together in a wok with a touch of extra teriyaki sauce for a flavorful medley.
  3. With Noodles: Pair your crispy tofu with stir-fried or boiled noodles. Create a saucy noodle dish by tossing them in a blend of teriyaki sauce, sesame oil, and garnishing with sliced green onions.
  4. As a Salad Topper: Top your favorite salad with crispy teriyaki tofu for a protein-packed crunch. It adds a delightful contrast to fresh greens, cherry tomatoes, and your choice of dressing.

Indulge in the crispy goodness and explore these serving options to find your perfect pairing. Whether it’s a meal over rice or a vibrant stir-fry, this dish is  oh-so-delicious!

  1. Me and my husband are becoming vegetarians and this was our first time eating tofu! The recipe was great and the tofu was super crispy. My sauce did turn out a bit thick and wouldn’t coat the chicken though haha

    1. Hi Emily! Thanks so glad you liked the tofu! I see the problem, there was a typo in the amount of cornstarch that has now been fixed. So sorry your sauce came out too thick because of that! Appreciate the review and keep on cooking 🙂

  2. Hello~
I made this today and made some changes, since I didn’t had few ingredients and it still turned out great! My family loved it!
I did everything the same but at the same time different, I substituted tofu with cottage cheese (paneer) and added some green chilli paste since my family loves spicy and a little bit of honey on top as it becomes a mix of savoury and spicy. But it was great! Thank you for this recipe. I know this was not exactly a teriyaki sauce which i made, but your recipes help me a lot with great snack items. Lots of love! 💜🥰☺️
